Gelato Stop was painted en plein air on October 17th, the second day of the 2017 Brandywine Valley Plein Air Event. This was my first Nocturne event. This is a view of an ice cream shop on Gay Street in West Chester. I started painting at 6:30 PM and went until about 9:30 PM. It was pretty challenging as lighting changed rapidly as the sun went down and street lights turned on. The air was damp and the paint was slow to dry. Painting outside was much different from painting a night scene from a photograph. The camera seems to pick up a lot more glare than you actually see. Also, your eye sees more color than the camera picks up. It was a bit cool and I struggled at time fumbling in the dark for tools and supplies but had a great time and hope to do more nocturnes.
