Baily’s Dairy Farm

This work was done en Plein Air in late August, 2016. Frank Rauscher and I were driving around looking for places to paint. We had passed a number of good spots but none where we could safely pull off and set up to paint. When we came down Locust Grove Road the cows were roaming around in the field and the sun was bouncing off some of the buildings and the meadow in front of the farm. It was perfect.
We set up by the bridge. I’ve painted cows there before but never the farm so I decided to give it a go. I really liked the composition. I have been working on techniques for capturing meadows particularly in the foreground and this scene provided a significant challenge. Most of the painting was finished on site. I did a few touch ups back in the studio on the buildings and foreground.

Framed 11 in. x 14 in. Available
